Owner of Caring K9, Krista is a subject matter expert on Crisis K9’s and has over 15 years of experience as a professional dog handler, therapy and service dog trainer. She is a CLASS evaluator through the Association for Professional Dog Trainers, a certified Therapy Dog Trainer through the International College of Canine Studies, a Certified Trick Dog Instructor through Do More With Your Dog! and a guest speaker across Canada on various topics including Therapy Dog Program Implementation and Utilizing Dogs in Child Interviews. She was the policy creator for the RCMP’s Victim Services Therapy Dog Program in Prince George and has provided consultation to several other victim serving agencies, school districts and community programs. Krista was awarded the BC Community Achievement Award for her work with dogs by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

She has spent over two decades working in higher education as a college librarian and dean. Her approach to dog training is grounded in the same values that guide her professional work: critical thinking, compassion, and clarity. After navigating the challenges of reactivity firsthand, Shawna sought out the most credible research available—not just opinions or trends—and began applying what she learned with transformative results. The Dog Library and this course, Reactive Dog Reset, were born from that experience. The course reflects Shawna’s passion as a researcher, educator, and caregiver: it’s thorough, honest, and practical, combining the latest findings in behavior science with day-to-day tools that actually work.
